Wetherspoons fans were shocked to see how much prices have gone up after a 2005 menu resurfaced.

The pub chain has always been known for its purse-friendly offerings, and remains a relatively cheap option.

But people may be surprised to see that prices have more than doubled on several drinks and dishes over the past 19 years.

A medium glass of wine (175ml) was just £1.95 in 2005, while a small glass of Chardonnay today will set you back £4.55.

A coffee in 2005, meanwhile, was a bargainous 89p but today youll pay £1.56 though with free refills thats arguably still pretty good value.

When it comes to food, you could get an 8oz sirloin steak for £6.15, which today costs £13 with a soft drink.

There was also a deal of two main meals for just £5.75, whereas the current deli deal for three meals costs £14.75.

The throwback menu was shared on social media.

One Wetherspoons fan, Tim said: Shocking how little things have increased in 20 years.

Now people think having an Aunt Bessies Sunday dinner served in polystyrene and delivered from a local pub or cafe, a bargain at 15 quid.

Derek added: Those were the days.

While Lee said: Wish they were like that now but still decent for today.

Some people also reminisced about the dishes on offer at the time.

Gill said: Some nicer meals on the menu then.

I miss the lamb shank.

Diane said: Please Wetherspoons bring back this menu. Most of the meals sound great.

The Metro has contacted Wetherspoons for comment.

Last month we shared the full list of Wetherspoon pubs that were on the market, under offer or recently closed.

Wetherspoons enjoyed sales growth of nearly 8% over the 12 months leading up to July this year, when it published its most recent trading update.

Yet it has sold or surrendered the lease on several of its pubs.
