Two people have been confirmed dead in a house fire which erupted in the early hours of this morning.
The blaze took hold at an address on The Coppice in Stoke Aldermoor, Coventry.
The bodies were found following the fire, which broke out in a first-floor flat on the residential road at around 4.40am.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: Sadly, two people were confirmed dead at the scene and we are now working to identify them.
Our officers are liaising closely with West Midlands Fire Service, who are working to identify the cause of the fire.
Fire engines from Coventry, Binley, Foleshill and Canley responded, the first arriving within four minutes of being mobilised.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: This was a severe house fire in a first-floor maisonette flat, affecting the entire property.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property but very sadly, the bodies of two people were found inside.
Firefighters extinguished the fire, which was confirmed to be fully out at around 5.55am.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.
A spokesman said: On arrival ambulance staff worked closely with colleagues from the fire service and police and were able to identify two patients.
Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save either of the patients and they were confirmed dead at the scene.
The investigation involving the fire service and West Midlands Police continues.
