Most people look to keep their home warm when the first cool breeze passes through in autumn but according to one professional this is one of the worst things you can do.

With condensation usually appearing as people heat their houses, the resulting damp can lead to bigger problems like mould.

This is not the only thing to lead to a rise in temperature with hot showers and even cooking potentially leading to a similar affect.

However, according to experts there is one simple thing anybody can try when cooking to reduce the impact of condensation and the risk of further problems.

Taking to TikTok, the consumer experts at Which? have produced some handy advice in a succinct video to offer their best guidance.

Homeowners unsure where to start have been given a comprehensive list which includes seven different way to combat the growing problem.

One option includes the incredibly easy hack of popping a lid on the pan that youre using to cook, preventing excess steam from escaping and lingering in corners of the kitchen.

Liquid evaporating off sauces, pasta and other culinary delights could end up hitting the cold windows, leading to condensation and even mould.

The expert can be heard saying: When cooking, put lids on pans to lock in that moisture. If you have an extractor fan, use that too. And if not, open a window.

A further issue could arise when drying clothes indoors but the experts advise simply opening a window to increase ventilation.

Those in smaller, stuffier spaces or areas which can be tricky to ventilate could even opt for a dehumidifier.

Whilst none of these solutions can fix existing mould, they have the ability to prevent further moisture.

In the video, the professionals explain: If youre getting one for a warm room, then youll want whats called a refrigerant or compressor dehumidifier.

You just need to place it in the centre of your home and keep internal doors open so it draws out all that water from the air.

If you want a dehumidifier for a colder space, like a garage, youll need a desiccant type, which doesnt require warm air.

It comes after the £1 hack for combating mould and keeping condensation at bay was revealed.

Lynsey Crombie shared her top trick of how washing up liquid can be a great tool to keep to hand.

Lathering the cleaning product onto windows and mirrors, Lynsey claimed the invisible barrier prevents water gathering on the surfaces, therefore reducing condensation.
