A mum says shes glad she had a c-section after welcoming a baby boy that weighed a whopping 11lbs 7oz.

Nicole Taylor, who is just 5ft2, had been told her George would be on the larger size but she hadnt realised he would be quite that big.

Even the surgeons performing the c-section were stunned, she said.

The average weight of a newborn boy in the UK is 7lbs 8oz, meaning George delivered on October 17 was almost 50% heavier than average.

For context, most bowling balls start at 10lb.

Nicole, 30, and husband, Tommy, 33, who is 6ft1, had to remove the newborn attachment from their car seat to get their son home from Leeds General Infirmary as it was too small for him.

And he was instantly in size two nappies and 0-3 month clothes as none of his newborn clothes would fit him.

Legal PA Nicole, from Leeds, said: The week before I was due, I decided to go for a caesarean section as they told me of all the risks associated with having him naturally.

Im so glad I did as I think it would have been horrific.

I was really shocked because he looked so big, all the surgeons were saying hes massive, they couldnt wait to get him on the scales.

They said he could be the biggest baby to be born at LGI in five years. Tom and I were like oh my god, hes massive.

I was a bit concerned there might be something wrong with him being so big, but hes had all his checks and hes fine.

The signs George would be big were there, Nicole said. Nicoles first son Leo, now eight, was also on the larger side when he was born, weighing 8lbs 12oz.

She also started to show quite early with George. But people were saying you do show quicker with your second, so I didnt think anything of it, she explained.

However, at the 39 week scan her son already weighed 9lb 2oz

One of the midwives said you must just make big babies.

Hes lovely, hes thriving, hes just wont stop having a bottle. He has a five ounce bottle every two hours and its not enough for him.

Nicole and George were allowed home two days after the birth, where Nicoles Leo was very excited to be big brother.

She said: He was in school when George came and they announced it in assembly and everyone cheered.

He is heavy, weve had lots of visitors, and they just still cant believe the size of him and some people have struggled to hold him for long.

Hes chunky but beautiful. Im just absolutely over the moon. Hes absolutely beautiful, and such a nice baby.
