I don’t trust my daughter is mine and my ex is refusing a DNA test

I don’t trust my daughter is mine and my ex is refusing a DNA test + ' Main Photo'

DEAR DEIDRE: MY ex is refusing to allow a DNA test on our youngest daughter to prove she’s mine.

We were together for 12 years. She’s 35 and I’m 37. We split up because I found out that she was cheating on me.

She did the school run one morning and afterwards, I used the same car for work. Her phone had fallen under the seat.

She had 10 missed calls from a guy I go to the gym with, so when it rang again I answered.

He’s a butcher and when I confronted him, he said he was calling about some meat she’d ordered. I knew he was lying. She’s a vegetarian.

I argued with my wife about it and eventually, she admitted to an affair.

Our break-up was amicable. My girls are 10 and four.

I’m in the process of drawing up my will and I suddenly realised that my youngest may not be mine. She’s so different from her sister with blond curls and blue eyes. My older one is dark like me.

I want to be sure they’re both mine before I write my will but my ex says a DNA test will never happen.

DEIDRE'S STORIES

Bailey's confides in her friend

DEIDRE SAYS: Eye and hair colour is no marker of paternity. True siblings can often look different from one another and features can skip a generation, with features coming from grandparents.

The trust disappeared when your wife cheated but you’re a father to your daughter no matter what biology says. You’ve brought her up. You love and nurture her.

Would you really want to exclude her from your life and your will if she isn’t your prodigy?

Think carefully before opening up this huge can of worms. Please contact Cellmark, (cellmark.co.uk, tel: 0800 036 253322) who provide confidential, conclusive, court-approved DNA tests.
