A teenage girl has died after becoming unwell at a Welsh rugby club on Friday evening.

Paramedics were called to Amman United RFC in Ammanford, south Wales, shortly before 10pm.

Three units arrived by road and treated the 14-year-old, who has not been named, but a decision was made to scramble an air ambulance around 45 minutes later.

The emergency helicopter landed on the pitch at 11.35pm, according to a spokesperson.

The girl was given further treatment before she was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead the following morning.

The club said it was closed and is postponing all games out of respect for the time being.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed Powys Police said: Our thoughts remain with the family at this difficult time.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a report will be prepared for H.M Coroner.
