The roof of a double decker bus was completely torn off in east London this morning after the vehicle crashed into a tree.

Ambulances, the fire service and police were called to reports of a bus crash just after 10am in Hedgemans Road, near Lullington Road, Dagenham.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as emergency services attended passengers and worked to secure the area.

Two women were injured and taken to hospital as a precaution. Their injuries were described by police as non life-threatening and non life-changing.

Local residents expressed shock at the incident. One witness said: The noise was unbelievable.

I couldnt believe the roof had come completely off. Emergency services got here quickly, and theyve been working to clear the area.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: At about 10am on Wednesday, 20 November a bus collided with a tree on Hedgemans Road, Dagenham.

Police and the London Ambulance Service attended.
