Brighton vs Liverpool preview
Premier League rivals Brighton and Liverpool battle it out for a place in the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup.
And given the pair meet in the league this weekend, its something of a dress rehearsal for the pair who sit second and sixth in the table.
The Seagulls have beaten League One Crawley Town and Wolves to reach this stage.
But its not exactly been a profitable competition for Fabian Hurzelers side, whove only once ever gone beyond the fourth round of the competition and that was 45 years ago!
Brighton arrive in reasonably good touch after beating Tottenham and Newcastle United in the Premier League.
They should have registered a third successive top-flight win over the weekend but blew a two-goal lead with two minutes of normal time remaining.
They will, however, enter the clash knowing they boast the superior record against Liverpool in recent times.
Theyve won two of the last five against Liverpool in all competitions including a 96th-minute Kaoru Mitoma winner in the FA Cup back in January 2023.
A poor record in this competition is not something thats familiar to Liverpool.
Theyve won two of the last three Carabao Cup finals beating Chelsea on both occasions. Theyve won the League Cup TEN TIMES in total, which is more than anyone since it began in 1961.
Arne Slots side are in sparkling form despite their run of eight-straight victories ending with a 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday.

Brighton vs Liverpool preview betting tips and predictions
Goals
I dont see this match being short on goals, especially given Brightons recent record at the Amex Stadium.
The Seagulls last four home matches have finished 3-2, 2-2, 3-2 and 2-2. Thats no real surprise given their attacking approach and the fact only Manchester City and Arsenal have had more goal attempts at home this season.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have the highest xG (expected goals) in the Premier League away from home this campaign (9.19) and have netted 2+ in five of their seven games away from Anfield in all competitions.

Liverpool filled their boots against West Ham in their opening Carabao Cup fixture with Cody Gakpo grabbing a brace that evening.
In fact, the Dutch international is something of a Carabao Cup specialist having also bagged FOUR in six appearances in last years successful run to the Wembley final.
He now has six goals in seven League Cup games for Liverpool, and should be capable of adding to that tally in what we expect to be a high-scoring affair.
